GT-R-Inspired Engineering Propels 2025 Nissan Armada to Record Torque

The 2025 Nissan Armada debuts with a groundbreaking twin-turbo V6 engine delivering an impressive 516 lb-ft of torque - a 103 lb-ft increase over its predecessor. This new powerplant not only outmuscles the previous V8 but also aims to blend robust performance for off-road adventures with refined daily driving, all while maintaining a class-leading 8,500-pound towing capacity.

At the heart of the 2025 Armada lies a technological marvel - a twin-turbo V6 that surpasses all previous Nissan production engines in torque output. Paired with a new 9-speed automatic transmission, this powertrain promises improved acceleration and smoother gear shifts, enhancing both performance and efficiency.

Innovative Engineering Meets Advanced Technology

The Armada's engineering team has incorporated cutting-edge technologies to achieve this remarkable performance. A small groove in the turbochargers, inspired by Nissan's Skyline model, reduces noise and improves turbine efficiency. The use of Mar-M superalloy in turbo components, a material typically found in jet engines, allows for operation under extreme heat conditions.

Another standout feature is the "scavenger" oil pump, designed to enhance lubrication during high-G manoeuvres. This technology, originally developed for the GT-R, ensures consistent performance in challenging off-road situations.

Sho Takahashi, senior manager in Nissan's Engine Engineering Department, emphasizes the comprehensive approach: "We didn't just build a powerful engine - we created a solution that meets the needs of today's drivers, whether they're adventuring off-road or navigating everyday commutes."

Rigorous Testing for Real-World Performance

To ensure the Armada's capability across diverse conditions, Nissan conducted extensive testing across 13 North American states. Dave Kiesel, manager in the Powertrain Performance Group, explains, "We put the vehicle through a variety of towing tests to validate high performance even when towing a heavy load."

The new powertrain also brings improvements in refinement. Engineers have rebalanced the crankshaft and refined engine mounts to mitigate vibrations despite the increased power output. Electric intake valve timing enhances throttle response, delivering a more engaging driving experience.

You'll appreciate the Armada's blend of power and efficiency, whether you're merging onto highways or exploring remote trails. With its innovative engineering and robust performance, the 2025 Nissan Armada sets a new standard in the full-size SUV segment.
